About Us

History

In 1665, Saint-Gobain was created to make the glass for the Hall of Mirrors at Palace of Versaille.  A world leader in not only glass but High Performance Materials, Construction Products and Building Distribution, today Saint-Gobain has over 180,000 employees in 49 countries.

The Abrasive Materials Department can trace it roots back to the early 1900's making aluminum oxide and silicon carbide under the Norton brand name.  Since then, Abrasive Materials has pushed the envelope for abrasive grains, patenting such developments as monocrystalline alumina (1946), alumina zirconia 25% (1965), alumina zirconia 40% (1973) and seeded gel alumina (1986).

Global Abrasives Leader

Abrasive Materials can tranform your grinding wheels and sandpaper from commodities to specialties.  Our highly engineered materials can be used in high or low pressure applications, on ferrous or non ferrous metals or other work pieces (polymers, wood, etc).  Also explore alternative uses, such as pressure blasting media, tumbling abrasive or anti-slip aggregates.
