Bonded Abrasive Grains for Thin Wheels

Thin wheels are used in markets ranging from welding, pipe, construction, and foundry to primary metal markets for snagging and cutting ferrous and nonferrous materials. Widely viewed as commodities, inferior thin wheel utilization can cost more in terms of removal rates, lifetime, wheel wear, and operator productivity than if a premium thin wheel was used in the first place. By increasing the performance of thin wheels to achieve the best value, manufacturers can significantly improve operator efficiency and minimize cost.

Minimizing Total Cost of Grinding

Upgrading thin wheels to higher-value tools entails choosing bonded abrasive grains specifically engineered for productivity and performance. Saint-Gobain Abrasive Materials' best-in-class abrasive grains provide quick and precise cuts with less effort, demonstrating industry-leading performance in terms of stock removal, wheel life and grain quality. With multiple manufacturing sites in North America, Europe, and Asia, Saint-Gobain Abrasive Materials' unique manufacturing technologies produce a stable, secure supply of the sharpest and toughest grains.

Engineered for Peak Performance

Saint-Gobain Abrasive Materials' premium abrasive grains are hard, extremely tough, and last much longer than traditional abrasives.

  • Norzon NV

Norzon NV® 40% alumina-zirconia grain demonstrates spectacular cutting ability because of its inherent strength and high resistance to dulling. Our unique manufacturing process allows for one of the most durable materials in the abrasives industry, outperforming commodity abrasives like brown fused aluminum oxide and silicon carbide. Norzon NV is available with a bond-enhancing coating.

  • AZ40 for Bonded Abrasives

AZ40 1564/1578 is a special alloy containing about 40Wt% zirconia produced by fusing zirconia and alumina at 1900°C in an electric furnace. This specific process develops a very small crystal size and unique columnar microstructure. It is widely used for resin-bonded abrasives that require a high lifetime and material removal abilities. AZ40 1578 is treated with a special coating to improve bonding strength with resin.

  • Monocrystalline Alumina

Manufactured at Saint-Gobain Abrasive Materials' facility in China, MA88® monocrystalline alumina is an electrofused abrasive produced by fusing high-quality alumina. Each particle is a single crystal, giving many sharp, strong edges that contribute to better bonding and sharper cutting action when molded into a bonded abrasive.

  • Seeded Gel

Cerpass XTL®, Cerpass DGE®, and Cerpass TGE® seeded gel products are abrasive grains that feature a unique nano-structure. The combination of the grains’ sharpness and microstructure allows for an aggressive cutting and long-lasting ceramic grain ideal for use in organic bond-systems, tough-to-grind applications, and even low-force applications.

Saint-Gobain Abrasive Materials cultivates strong, long-lasting relationships with its customers through close collaboration, working side-by-side to develop innovative solutions for their unique challenges.
