MA-88 Grain

Monocrystalline Alumina Grains

Manufactured at Saint-Gobain Abrasive Grains' China production facility utilizing Japanese technology, our MA88® monocrystalline alumina is an electro-fused abrasive produced by fusing high purity alumina with special alloys. Each particle is a single crystal, resulting in more sharp, strong edges that contribute to better bonding and sharper cutting action when molded into a bonded abrasive.

MA88 is an improved version of Saint-Gobain Abrasive Grains' 32A-type abrasive originally patented by Norton Company. By eliminating sulfur from the production process, this environmentally friendly monocrystalline alumina is the future for cool-cutting alumina abrasives. Used primarily in the aerospace, automotive, and cutting tool industries, MA88 applications range from precision grinding of high hardness tool steel to general grinding and cut-off wheels. MA88 is also becoming the grain of choice for performance Thin Wheels.

MA88’s high hardness and unique microstructure create numerous and durable cutting edges, which lead to dramatically improved performance when compared to white fused alumina or even chrome-doped alumina. MA88 makes a superb blend partner with ceramic grains like Cerpass® XTL. Already a leading monocrystalline grain for both vitrified and resin bond applications, MA88K now features proprietary enhancements to both toughness and cutting rate.

As seen on the graph to the left, this new, enhanced grain features not only significant gains in G-ratio but also gains nearly 30% in removal rates. Additionally, these enhancements are achieved with lower energy requirements.

Now you can transform your grinding tools from commodities to specialties by utilizing higher performing abrasive grains from Saint-Gobain Abrasive Grains. Expect excellence, accept no substitutes.
